Job description

The Technical Project Manager is creative, highly motivated and flexible, holding a central role in the governance of our high-end flagship camera projects. Responsibilities include working closely with 3rd parties both in Europe and Asia, ensuring they respect the agreed project scope, monitoring closely their progress and all daily activities. The role leads the development effort from design, to execution and verification. With excellent communications skills the role is the primary interface throughout the life of a program and is responsible for launching products on time, on quality and also on cost.

Objectives of the role:

  • To bring visibility to stakeholders by communicating the project status and required actions;
  • To communicate Polaroid product requirements efficiently to 3rd parties;
  • To track progress with the different technical team leaders (Optics; HW; SW; ME) and ensure the requirements are being met and controlled, up to deliverable acceptance;
  • To monitor project schedules using sprint planning and Gantt chart, ensuring the project/work packages will be completed on time while trying to defuse critical path/s;
  • To identify and manage expectations with different project stakeholders in the Polaroid organisation and ensure their requirements are being addressed;
  • To manage risks and opportunities with the 3rd parties;
  • To work with the 3rd party engineering team to ensure the planned deliveries are performed within budget and that redundant activities are removed;
  • To provide detailed reports tracking project metrics;
  • Technical liaison between HQ to the design parties in EU and Asia;
  • Focal point in Polaroid HQ for technical related issues & knowledge related to the project.

    Daily responsibilities

    • Ensuring discussions between multi-disciplinary teams is productive, focused and actionable;
    • Working with the external Program Managers to crystalize their plans;
    • Help the external program managers/technical leads to follow-up and resolve major/critical topics that potentially risk the project success (e.g. bottlenecks on the critical path);
    • Review development and validation approaches to build confidence they will result in the product intent being achieved;
    • Follow-up on action items from both sides;
    • Report on overall program health (technical, schedule and financial) on a weekly basis;
    • Raise flags before issues are becoming critical.

      The ideal candidate

      • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Industrial; Optics; EE) ; applied science or similar;
      • Previous experience in system design, development and validation of multi-disciplinary system as system engineer – a plus;
      • At least 5 years of relevant program experience or customer management experience for product development programs, in a leading global high-tech company preferably consumer electronics;
      • Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams through multiple phases of the product development and service life-cycle;
      • Experience introducing and/or managing third party research and development partners;
      • Proven ability to work in cross-functional groups in a technical environment;
      • Experience working with fabrication contractors; ODM’s and vendors in the Optics/HW/Mobile industry with emphasis in Asia and EU;
      • Expertise in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project and proficiency in developing, tracking, and maintaining project schedules;
      • Ability to travel up to 10% travel.

      What to expect

      This is a full-time role based in our Amsterdam HQ (Houthavens). You will be reporting directly to the Director of Program Management and working closely with the design and development teams.
